Privacy notice
How personal information is handled when you use this website or make a professional enquiry.
About this notice
This notice concerns Professor Iain Beardsell’s personal professional website, iainbeardsell.com, and enquiries about speaking, hosting, education, collaboration and medico-legal work. It does not describe the separate arrangements for NHS or university services, or the MedPod Learn platform.
Privacy questions can be sent to ibeardsell@doctors.org.uk. MedPod enquiries should go to docib@medpodlearn.co.uk.
STANDCLEAR (MEDICAL EDUCATION) LTD operates this website and is responsible for deciding why and how personal information is used through the website and its professional enquiries. This makes the company the data controller for these activities. Iain Beardsell and Victoria Jackson manage enquiries on its behalf.
Information in an enquiry
An email includes your email address and any name, organisation, message or attachments you choose to provide. Later correspondence may include details of the event, teaching or collaboration you have in mind.
Enquiry emails are checked daily by Iain Beardsell or Victoria Jackson, who use the information to respond to and manage the enquiry. The website currently provides email links rather than an enquiry form or a facility for uploading records.
Please do not send patient information, medical records or confidential case material in an initial enquiry.
Initial medico-legal enquiries
Solicitors and professional organisations may make initial enquiries about adult Emergency Medicine medico-legal work in England and Wales at iainbeardsell@gmail.com. I am now accepting enquiries and instructions, subject to my clinical expertise, potential conflicts and capacity. Please do not include patient-identifying information or confidential clinical records.
An initial enquiry may include your name, professional contact details, the organisation you represent and general information about a proposed instruction. Do not include patient-identifying information.
Do not send patient records, confidential case material or identifiable clinical information through this website or in an initial email. Separate arrangements must be agreed before any confidential clinical information is received.
This notice covers initial professional enquiries. It does not cover the handling of confidential clinical records or medico-legal reports.
Why information is used
Professional correspondence is used to respond to the request and discuss or arrange the work being asked about. Enquiry contact details are not used for newsletters or future marketing.
For initial medico-legal enquiries, information is used to respond, consider suitability and availability, and carry out preliminary administrative checks. An enquiry does not mean that an instruction has been accepted.
For ordinary professional enquiries, including initial medico-legal enquiries, the lawful basis is legitimate interests: the company’s interest in responding to professional requests, considering suitable work and managing the necessary correspondence and administration. This does not cover processing confidential clinical records.
How long we keep enquiry information
We keep correspondence needed for an active enquiry, agreed work or follow-up. When these are complete, we review the correspondence and delete information that is no longer needed.
If particular records need to be retained, we record the specific reason and when they will next be reviewed.
Access and service providers
Professional enquiries are handled by Iain Beardsell and Victoria Jackson using Doctors.net.uk and Gmail email accounts. These services process messages and related technical information to provide email and protect their services, under their own terms and privacy policies. Webflow hosts this website. Its hosting and security services process technical information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. The Speaking & hosting page includes an embedded Vimeo player, which connects the visitor’s browser to Vimeo.
Some service providers process personal information outside the UK. Webflow describes storage in the United States, and Google describes processing on servers around the world.
These enquiry-handling arrangements do not extend to access to confidential clinical records or medico-legal reports. Separate arrangements will be needed before any such information is received.
Website cookies and video
No additional analytics or advertising tracking has been enabled by the site owner. The hosting infrastructure has been observed setting a Cloudflare cookie called _cfuvid, which Cloudflare describes as supporting its rate-limiting protection.
The Vimeo player does not autoplay and uses Vimeo’s do-not-track setting. Vimeo explains that this setting can still permit security cookies and does not stop a browser sending Vimeo cookies it already holds. The player can load before someone presses Play.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your personal information and for inaccurate or incomplete information to be corrected. Depending on the circumstances, rights may also include deletion, restriction and a portable copy of information.
Your right to object: where information is used on the basis of legitimate interests, you can object to that use. Where consent is the lawful basis, it can be withdrawn.
Requests can be sent to ibeardsell@doctors.org.uk. A subject access request normally requires a response without undue delay and within one month, subject to the applicable extension and timing rules.
Read the ICO’s information-rights guidanceQuestions and complaints
To raise a concern about the handling of personal information, email ibeardsell@doctors.org.uk and explain what has happened. Please avoid including patient information or records.
There is also a right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator.
